Spiders tie Nordeasters to end winning streak

The very un-Spiders-like two-game winning streak comes to a close vs. Nordeasters at Highland.

The Spiders took on the Nordeasters for the first time in franchise history, though three of the players have been on the Gold Wing+Der+Pack summer teams — Brian Woods, Jim Lindholm and Todd Fitz.

Berman got the Spiders on the board quickly, scoring just over a minute after puck drop, assists to Andres and VanZyl. The Nordeasters wouldn’t answer back until the second, to tie the game at 1, which was quickly followed by Cory Vandenberghe’s third of the season, assisted again by VanZyl.

The quick goal in the third came from the Nordeasters instead, and the answer to that came from Lindholm, giving the Nordeasters the lead with under 10 minutes to go.

Late arrivals Eric Grotbeck and Mike Schroeder, who went to overtime in their early Laker game, tied it back up for the Spiders with just two and half minutes to go, also assisted by O’Connor.

In the extra frame, the refs finally saw green instead of red, putting the Spiders on the power play for just the second time, despite five two-minute sits for the Spiders earlier in the game.

The OT man-advantage wasn’t enough, and the game ended in the first tie of the season for the Spiders, and second consecutive tie for the Nordeasters.

Next up, the Spiders take on those same Hooligans, another Saturday night back at Highland at 7:40.

Lifetime against the Hooligans, the Spiders are 2–0 dating back to the 2017–18 season.
