KanJammed up

Very short-benched Spiders can’t keep up with as-not short-benched third-place Kan Jammers

The Spiders bench was nice and spacious for an early Thursday night game at Parade, with more ink on the game roster than uninked.

After the Spiders withstood a forecheck barrage from the Kan Jammers early the first, the game evened out, and despite giving up two in the first, the game still seemed under control. Until the dreaded Spider power play, as the Kans took advantage of the slow-skating Spiders for a shortie breakaway.

And though the Spiders answered back soon after, with George Farner erased the donut, it was all Kan Jam after that. Early in the third, after they scored on the first shift, captain Litton advised the ref that we would go to runtime when the time came. And sure enough, a couple of minutes later, the Spider D made it happen, with a Kan puck Jammed off a defender’s skate and in. Runtime achieved!

They added another after a flurry in front of the net, with the third third attempt finally finding twine, briniging the final score to 8–1.

Netminder Jack had to stand on his head to keep it that close, making same great first saves, among the Jammers’ 32 shots on goal.

Lifetime against this team, it’s now, it’s 1–3–1.

In the C3 playoff race, the dance card is almost locked up with two games to go, but the top spot remains close (except for tiebreakers) between the Growlers and Wood Knocks. While the Spiders may just not quite make it this season.

Next up for the Spiders, another quick turnaround, taking on the 12th-place Spartans during the forecasted blizzard on Sunday night.

Lifetime against this version of the Spartans, the series of which started in the 2022–23 season, that team’s first at C3, is even up at 2–2 after the Spiders’ narrow 3–2 defeat earlier this season.

Puck drop on Sunday at 9 p.m. at EPCC.
