Spider Skid continues in 7–4 loss to Wood Knocks
Dec. 6, 2025
The good news, the Spiders have scored four goals in each of the last two games.
A sizeable Saturday night crowd showed up at Richfield (for some reason) to watch the Spiders take on the undefeated Wood Knocks.
While the Knocks capitalized on an early power play, the Spiders quickly answered back, and held for most of the first, until the Knocks went up by one, then another early in the second.
But John Andres singlehandedly got the Spiders back in it, first with a point shot deflected off a D-man’s glove and in, and then a seeing-eye wrister. Tie game midway through.
But the Knocks knocked again, quickly potting two, answered by a coast-to-coaster by Schroeder, and another backbreaker by the Wood Knocks to close out the second, up 6–4.
In the third, the Spiders had their chances, including one that seemed to find the inside of the post, but the refs quickly checked video and determined no goal. The Knocks also had their chances, with some wide open nets that somehow missed wide, or another blocked by their own sprawling forechecker.
When the Spiders were about ready to pull the netminder, the Knocks were awarded another goal (which actually never crossed the line). But video was not checked for this one.
But the three-goal difference would end up as the final score: 7–4.
It’s the Spiders’ sixth loss in a row, with three more games to go in December, curiously all three on Mondays!?
Lifetime against the Wood Knocks (now at two games starting last season) is 0–2.
Next up, the 2–3 Blue Ox. The Spiders have only played this team once, a win last season, though the Gold Rush beat them twice in 2023–24 (11 to 3 and 13 to 2), their first at C3.
Puck drop is 9:45 p.m. Monday, Dec. 15, back at Richfield.
