3.7 seconds

That’s how close the Spiders came to notching their first point of the season.
In a (too) early game at Eden Priaire on Sunday, the Spiders got out to the most dangerous lead in hockey for the first time this season, over the Fighting Loons. And sure enough, the second period snooze was all Loons, going up 3–2, including a waved-off-icing giftwrap from the refs.
But in the third Kato singlehandedly struck gold, forcing a turnover on a forecheck, then heading to the net to tip in Marc Berman’s setup.
The Loons took the lead back, at 9:02, only to be answered by the other Berman, from Olk.
With 7:39 to kill off and at least get a tie, the “we got this” echo of Doc Rob could be heard around the EPCC bench . And sure enough, the Spiders lost the last faceoff, and a netmouth scrum that seemed to last for 30 seconds, somehow ended up on the tape of the Loon, who flipped it in just in time, with 3.7 seconds on the clock (though that puck actually crossed with about 5 seconds to go… not that 5 or 3.7 would’ve made a difference).
Final score: Loons 5, Spiders yet another L.
Lifetime against the various versions of the Loons Dynasty™, it’s now 8–10–2 dating back to the 2013–14 season.
Next up, the 4–0–0–1 Wood Knocks. The Spiders have only played this team once, a 4–3 loss last season, and the Gold Rush also played them once, an OTL.
Puck drop is 6 p.m., Saturday at Richfield.
