But Spiders avoid the donut late in the third.
The pre-Thanksgiving Saturday night scheduling was not kind to the Spiders, with only 11 skaters available. Which was good, because there were only 11 available parking spots at the over-capacity TCO in Vadnais Heights (no, not to see Spiders/Marauders).
Despite being out-benched (and out-youthed), the Spiders were in the game until the third, when the PP made it 4-zip, and another a few minutes later made it an impossible 5-goal hole.
But with just over five minutes to go, the refs awarded the Spiders a power play, and the Spiders made good, erasing the donut for rookie Marauder sub-goalie B. Schmidt. Score it Mara from O’Connor and Vandenberghe.
The Marauders added one more for good measure with just 16 ticks on the clock. At which point the Spiders’ best passing of the game emerged, killing off the clock.
Final: 6–1
Four games in, four Ls on the board.
Lifetime against the Marauders, which dates all the way back to the 2014–15 season, but only five matchups since then until this season, is now even at 3–3.
The Spiders regroup after Turkey Day to take on the Fighting Loons Red (1–3), a matinee back at EPCC. Puck drop is 5:30.
