Spiders felled by Pines 6–2

The Spiders got off to yet another slow start, digging a 4-donut hole early Sunday at New Hope, in front of a raucous (and chirping) crowd.

They finally had something to squawk about late in the second, when Berman got the Spiders on the board (from Ungaro), and got the ref to get excited about the competition (“Hey, it’s a whole new game!”).

Then on the next shift, a Live Barn (and ESPN Highlight-worthy) replay happened, with one of the craziest goals in Spider history came off the stick of Nick Ungaro, while he was prone on the ice, skates toward the net, and he flung the puck behind himself, and it somehow found the net. Unbelievable!

Unfortunately, that was the rest of the Spiders’ offense on the night, as numerous chances were turned away by the top C3 goalie of the Pines.

Add the backbreaker early in the third, and one more for insurance, and final score: 6–2.

Lifetime against, the Pines, it’s now 1–2–2 since the 2020–21 season (plus the 5–4 loss in the playoffs last spring).

The Spiders maintain ownership of the C3 cellar (with some company: Sharks with frickin lasers and Saints), and play one more game before the Thanksgiving break, the 2–1 Maruaders.

Puck drop on Saturday, 8:50 p.m. at TCO.
