Spiders Can’t vs. Kan Jammers

Kan Jams the door on opening night.

The C3 Spiders returned to action after the summer hiatus, first two weeks ago in Duluth as the Spider-Tans (going zip-for-3). Then Sunday night vs. the Kan Jammers, with a similar result.

It’s the Spiders 21st season in the AHA (20th in the AHA Winter League; plus Beginner School). And it’s the AHA’s 25th anniversary (which we can all remember via the snazzy new hats).

Despite an early snipe by the Jammers to go up 1–0, the Spiders answered back midway through the period, on a perfect behind-the-net dish from Mettee to Olk, who didn’t miss. And almost had a repeat of the exact same play, from the Bermans, but somehow the goalie flashed the leather on that one.

Then some more “hockey” happened, with nothing to note until the third (except for three Kan Jam goals). Olk did it again early in the third, from Long, to pull the Spiders within two. Only to be answered 20 seconds later by a streaking Daddy Anders. Add a couple more insurance, and the Spiders notched their first L, 7–2.

Lifetime against this team, it’s now, it’s 1–2–1, thanks to last season’s tie.

Next up, the Spartans, on Sunday. Lifetime against the Spartans, the series of which started in the 2022–23 season, that team’s first at C3, the Spiders are 2–1.
