New-look Spiders, Same-old results

The Spiders were short-benched for Wednesday night’s game against the Fighting Loons, who dominated the game from the start. The Spiders barely sniffed the puck in the first period, except to dig it out of the net.

The second period tipped the scales the other way, as the Spiders first scored on the power play and again late in the period to tie the game.

The Spiders then tried to test the PK theory to see if they could rack up more shorthanded goals, like last week. While the Spiders spent much of the period shorthanded, the Loons notched three power play markers, salting the game away.

An unfortunate incident in the third, on a race for a waved-off icing puck, that resulted in a collision against the end boards and the Loon skater suffering a significant leg injury. The Spiders wish him a speedy recovery and return to the ice.

Final score: 5–2

Lifetime against the various versions of the Loons Dynasty™, it’s an even 7–7–1 dating back to the 2013–14 season.

Next up for the Spiders, the 0–2 D1(?) Spartans, Sunday evening, 7:15 at EPCC 1.
