Winter Season divisions announced; two Spiders squads to hit the ice

The AHA has announced the divisional lineups for the upcoming 2007–08 Winter season. And as you read the lineups below and see the Spiders listed twice, no need to check your vision (unless you’re a ref). The inevitable has happened. For the 2007–08 winter season, the Spiders will field two squads.

The league has recalibrated the definition of its C and D tiers, so that old D2 is the new D1, old D1 is the new C2, etc., thus allowing D2 to become what would’ve been D3. Get it? And as part of the AHA’s ongoing effort to enforce parity, the Spiders will split the team, with the Gretskys and Lemieuxs creating a C2 team, while the not-Gretskys et al will be at the new D1.

The D1 Spiders will compete at D1 East, against some new and some familiar faces (2006–07 division and regular season record noted):

  • Fighting Piranhas D1 (D2 East – 15–4–1–0)
  • Jets (D2 East – 10–9–1–0)
  • Lumberjacks (Beginner – 6–1–0–0)
  • Renegades (Beginner – 6–2–0–0)
  • Royals D1 (D2 West – 10–8–2–0)
  • Spiders D1 (D2 East – 12–7–1–0)
  • Stars (D2 West – 9–9–2–0)
  • Wolf Pack (D2 West – 7–11–2–0)

The new C2 Spiders will compete in the C2 West tier, with the following teams (2006–07 division and regular season record noted):

  • Admirals (D2 East – 6–12–1–1)
  • Eagles (D2 West – 7–12–0–1)
  • Lakers (D2 East – 12–6–1–1)
  • Rack Attack
  • Roadrunners (D2 East – 13–3–2–2)
  • Snowmen (D1 West – 6–12–2–0)
  • Spartans (D1 West – 8–12–0–0)
  • Spiders C2 (D2 East – 12–7–1–0)
  • Thunder Chickens (D2 East – 16–3–1–0)
  • Warriors (D2 West – 19–0–1–0)
  • Zephyrs (D1 West – 12–7–1–0)
