First win of the season … for the Jets

And the slide continues. In the fine tradition of Minnesota’s professional teams the last few weeks, the Spiders put up little and gave up a lot for the second week in a row, losing to the Jets 10–1. Although the game was in hand through two periods, with the Spiders spotting the Jets three goals, the Jets went into overdrive in the third, padding their stats with … count ’em … seven goals.

It was the first win of the season for the Jets (now 1–3 in the standings, as are the Spiders), with whom the Spiders had gone 2–0 last season.

Like last week, the Spiders notched only a single goal, this week by newly crowned Puck Hog, Brian Armagost, who went coast-to-coast to stuff one past Jets’ sub goalie Carson Turnquist. Assist by Brad Caron.

The most amazing accomplishment of the game: no penalties on the Spiders (and only one on the Jets). This even despite the 2007–08 debut of Mr. Cooler himself Paul LaCosse.

It was also the Spider debut of John Peterson, who made the prettiest pass of the game, from his derriere, tape to tape from behind the net to a breaking Aaron Bedessem, who almost scored on it.

Thanks again to sub goalie Sarah Thuriot, who so thoroughly enjoyed the workout last week she came back again tonight, facing 33 shots, making 23 saves. The Spiders did get a respectable 27 shots on goal, all but one deftly stoned by the Jets’ sub Carson Turnquist.

Next up, a pre-Thanksgiving late-nighter against 2005–06 rivals the Stars.
