Spiders win in shutout at Coliseum

The Spiders hit the Midway tonight and shut out the Moose 10–0. It was the Spiders’ first shutout and first 10-goal game, and Bruce Gustafson’s first career Hat Trick!

In a shift from Saturday’s game, the Spiders had no unassisted goals tonight, proving that we can in fact pass the puck. Tonight also saw the return of veteran cooler-dweller Paul LaCosse, who at least waited until the second period to get his first two-minute breather in the sin bin. He wasn’t alone: The Spiders’ PK unit got plenty of work tonight, with seven Power Plays for the Moose.

The short Spiders’ bench tonight racked up quite a few multi-point tallies:

  • Bruce Gustafson, with three goals and one assist
  • Doug Thorson, with one goal and four assists
  • Tonight’s Captain Bob “Bobby” Jensen, with three assists
  • Mike Armel, with one goal (first of AHA!) and one assist
  • Dave Schliesman, with one goal and one assist
  • Ben Tesch, with one goal and one assist (his first multi-point game!)
  • Lee Martini (playing with a cup tonight), with one goal and one assist

And also on the scoresheet, the Spiders practiced their stick skills all over the ice tonight:

  • Brian Armagost for hooking
  • Mike Montgomery for hooking
  • Paul LaCosse for hooking
  • Mike Montgomery, for too many men
  • Ryan Herman for roughing
  • Jeremy Litton for hooking

Sensing a pattern? Yep, they’re all innocent.

With goalkeeper Jeff Keacher unavailable, Stars’ goalkeeper Jay Weiner subbed, and earned the shutout tonight, stopping all 18 Moose shots. Fitting that he got a shutout with the Spiders, considering one of only two Spiders shutouts last season was against Jay and the Stars!

And finally, with Ted Samsel absent tonight, Lee Martini earned back his out-of-the-dressing-room-first crown.
