Bad news, good news, bad news

Spiders come back from 4–1 hole, but lose in third period to last-place Northern Horde.

The race for the bottom of C3 South continued Sunday at Richfield 1, with the last-place Northern Horde, whom the Spiders had beaten in the season opener 8–3, and the Spiders, sitting in 7th but looking for the bottom.

An offensive barrage in the first 5 minutes of the game led to a 3–1 Horde lead by the 12-minute mark. Halfway through the first, it was 4–1 Horde. But with 5:40 to go, the comeback started, with Johnson, from Sutton and Freed. The second was all Spiders as they tied the game back up at 4, with Grotbeck from Schroeder for their second tandem of the game, and Vandenberghe for his first of the season (with the C3 squad) just nine seconds later, assist to Bredael.

But the third was all Horde, with two quick goals halfway through the period sealing the game at 6–4.

Shots were relatively even, with 31 (10, 8, 13) on McCormick, and 28 (12, 8, 8) on the Horde’s Chouinard.

In a lucky draw with AHA scheduling, the B3 Spiders also played the Northern Horde last night at Breck, with the shorthanded Spiders coming up short 2–1.
