Hockey starts tomorrow!

The wait is over — the 2011–12 Spiders debut at C3 will take place Saturday evening at Drake Arena in St. Paul.

It’s your first chance to see the all-new C3 Spiders, skating in their seventh season of AHA Winter action, eighth including Beginner School. Following the team’s championship run last winter, the roster has seen considerable changes, and the Spiders welcome six new skaters and a new goalkeeper.

Starting off the season, it’s a familiar opponent across the red line. The Wingmen also make the move to C3, and the two teams last met in the round-robin portion of the playoffs last April, where the Spiders came from behind to win 3–2. Lifetime, the Spiders have the slight edge over the Wingmen, with a 2–1–1–1 record, dating back to the Spiders’ first win of the 2008–09 season.

The Wingmen will be without star (and former Spider) netminder Jeff Keacher, who is instead busy stopping pucks and flashing glove in every North American state and province’s ice rinks this year. Check out his incredible, itinerant story at stoppingineverystate.com or pucksineveryprovince.com.

And check out the Spiders vs. Wingmen at 6:45 p.m. at St. Paul Academy-Drake, as the puck drops on the 2011–12 season.
