AHA Announces Playoff Schedule And Format

Rarely has such a grand collection of mediocre (at best) hockey players been assembled in one place as tonight at the AHA mid-season captains meeting. Most of the meeting was the usual reminders about uniforms, rosters, and officiating.

Also on the agenda was the playoff schedule and format. The playoffs will be held April 5-10 with most of the weekend games at Bloomington Ice Gardens. The top four teams in each C2 division will advance to the playoffs. There will once again be three pools. Pools will be set up as follows:

  • Pool A: East #1, North #2, West #3, East #4
  • Pool B: North #1, West #2, East #3, North #4
  • Pool C: West #1, East #2, North #3, West #4.

There are some differences in the playoff format this year. Each team will play each of the other teams in their pool. The three pool champions and the team with the next best record advance to a single-elimination tournament. This eliminates the situation like last year where the Zephyrs won the pool championship (over the Spiders) but were left out of the championship game.
