Spiders Get Their Limit In The Muskie Opener

The Muskie season opened early, as the Spiders beat the fish 5-3. In a 3-period battle, the Spiders fought off the muskies in choppy waters.

The Muskies took the lead in the first, before the Spiders Brad Butalla tied it to end the first. The Muskies again took the lead in the second, until Tim Forcelle unleashed a cannon inside the left circle, hit the cross bar and finished the second period with the game tied. The Spiders swapped goals again with Brian Armagost's third point of the night.

The Spiders caught a little bit of the Stepichachilatecancelation virus. Yes, I know. It hit the team hard with 4 Strepinotices on Sunday alone. Anyway, this left the Spiders shorthanded Sunday. Thankfully D1 subs Armagost, Martini and Litton joined the squad to round out the team.

The every other shift was beginning to wear on the weary Spiders. The third-period momentum was starting to change in favor of the fish, Captain Schliesman called a much-needed timeout to give the team a rest. Well, not long after the time out did Brad Butalla score his 2nd of the night to give the Spiders the lead for good at 4-3. Bruce Gustafson filleted the Muskies for good to make it 5-3.

The Spiders were out shot 40-36.

The Lund 3 Stars of the game:
