Spiders sail over Admirals, Win streak hits 6 games!

After somewhat of a slow start, the spider machine eventually fired on all cylinders as the they dismantled a physical Admirals squad by a score of 8-2.

Brian Armagost opened the scoring on a feed by Mark Bortnem mid-way through the first. Just four minutes later the Spiders went up 2-0 on a goal by Shawn Tromiczak on a nice feed from Lee Martini. The only penalty of the period could have been called for roughing, elbowing, charging or interference...The ref chose interference and Delsing went off to serve his first two penalty minutes of the game. Just before the horn, the Admirals slid one by the Spider Wall and the first period ended at 2-1.

The second frame displayed some good up and down hockey. The Spiders played a good percentage of this period shorthanded as the Spiders gave the door to the sin bin a pretty good workout. Armagost was called for tripping 4 minutes in and Jack “the hammer” Delsing picked up 2 minutes for roughing and 2 minutes interference. Yes, you did read that right...with both immediate and extended family in the stands, the hammer spent the better part of the first 2 periods cozying up with the scorekeeper. Just when it looked like the second stanza would end scoreless, Shawn Tromiczak put in what appeared to be an unassisted goal with just 2 minutes left. After a slight stoppage in play and some strong negotiation by #44 (begging and groveling), Lee Martini was awarded his second assist of the game. With just 19 seconds left, the Spiders struck again. Schliesman, Maietta and Thorson engaged in a little game of tic-tac-toe before Doug slammed one home. Brian Dow turned away all 10 shots faced and period 2 ended with the Spiders on top 4-1.

The Spiders fired up the jets and absolutely buried the Admirals in the final frame. Jack “the hammer” Delsing got on the score sheet (for something other than horse play) with a long head-man pass to Maietta who found Gus in the slot...Light the lamp! At the mid-way point, Tim Stalpes put on a free clinic as he sliced and diced through all 5 Admirals then found Maietta on the doorstep...GOOOOOOOAL! With 6:23 left Captain Dave Schliesman buried 6th of the season on a nice feed from Thorson. He was overheard in the locker room telling the young Spider fans that he flew down the side, faked left, faked right, gave the tornado twirl and then beat the goalie top shelf! For those that have not yet figured it out...he is a salesman, and a darn good one! Just 23 seconds later more tic-tac-toe left the Delsing clan in the stands with smiles on their faces as he buried the biscuit after highlight reel passes from Maietta and Schliesman.

Final Score: Spiders 8, Admirals 2.
