Spiders offense goes missing in St. Paul

Entering the game Sunday night at Phalen the Spiders were hoping the offense would finally get untracked. Both the stats and the eye test showed the Spiders were still looking to gel offensively after an offseason roster upheaval.

Unfortunately the offense continued to be MIA as the Spiders tallied only one goal and were limited to a dismal 16 shots on goal as they fell 5-1 to the Saints. The short bench didn’t help either with only 10 skaters taking the ice. That number was cut to 9 when defenseman Josh Cagle left the game with an upper body injury. Cagle did his part the rest of the game by serving two penalties by current Spider penalty king Brian Dow.

On the bright side there were brief sings of the offense coming together. Doug Hopperstad, moving up to forward for the night, scored his first goal as a Spider on a slapshot from the left circle. And while passes were off the mark the Spiders did a better job passing through the neutral zone.

The loss drops the Spiders to 0-3 on the season. The Spiders have to view the upcoming game against Les Etoiles du Nord as a must win. LEdN are in their first season at B3 and enter the game at 1-1-1. Face off is at 9:30pm at Breck on Sunday, November 18th.
