Late goals from Stalpes and Yancey give Spiders 4-3 win over River Pirates

Third period goals from Tim Stalpes and Jason Yancey gave the Spiders a 4-3 comeback win over the River Pirates in the regular season finale.

Jason Yancey opened the scoring, roofing a loose puck off a scramble in front of the net. Matt Adelman scored his eighth of the season early in the second to give the Spiders a seemingly comfortable 2-0 lead.

The River Pirates came firing back, scoring three in a row through the beginning of the third to take a 3-2 lead. The Spiders continued to get the better chances and outshot the Pirates 33-18 through two, but sub goalie Steven Cak was strong in net. Brian Dow proved to be his equal, making big saves on odd man rushes.

The Spiders continued putting on the pressure and tiring the River Pirates out. After Cak turned away numerous good Spider chances, a lightly deflected off speed shot found its way past him to tie the score at 3-3. Yancey completed the comeback with his 11th of the year to make the final score 4-3.

The Spiders finish the regular season at 14-5-1-0 and 29 points, good for 2nd in the B3 East. The playoffs begin Tuesday, April 3rd with a preview to be posted shortly.
