Spiders stung by Venom

Coming off a frustrating tie game against the Barons, the Spiders hoped to bounce back with a win against the Venom. The game began with a pair of goals by Barons, but the Spiders battled back with goals by Stone and Adleman to tie the game back up near the end of the second period. Unfortunately, the Venom countered with two goals 58 seconds apart to put them back up by two. After taking a timeout, the Spiders regained their form and tied it up early in the third period by a pair of goals from Yancy and Long. The Venom's aggressive forecheck was too much for the Spiders and they went up by one with 57 seconds remaining in the game. After pulling the goalie, the Spider's nearly tied the game with 15 seconds remaining with a breakaway by the team’s leading goal scorer Yancy, but to no avail.

Spiders rookie Peterson continued to add to his point total with a pair of assists. Jacobson was a scratch for this game with an injured foot and hopes to return in early December. This game also marked the return of Long to the Spiders lineup after a twelve-month hiatus from the Spiders, during which he was on loan to the Wild League Mustangs, where he helped win a championship. The Spiders were eager to have their defenseman back and Long looked true to form.

The Spiders are on a bye next weekend heading into Thanksgiving and then travel back to VMCC for a late Sunday game in two weeks against the Landsharks. Hopefully the Spider's legs will be rested and any turkey hangover long gone as they look to bounce back from a close loss to the league leading Venom.
