Short-benched Fighting Piranhas dominate Spiders 9-3

Despite having only eight skaters, the Fighting Piranhas easily dominated the Spiders Saturday night at New Hope South.

The Piranhas wasted no time, getting on the board only 17 seconds into the game. Two more goals had the Piranhas up 3-0 in less than five minutes. Aaron Bedessem got the Spiders on the board but the Piranhas answered with goals late in the first and early in the second to extend the lead to 5-1.

The Spiders showed some fight, closing to 6-3 midway through the second on goals by Bob Maietta and Shawn Tromiczak. The momentum was starting to turn with the next goal being critical as the Piranhas seemed to be tiring. Unfortunately for the Spiders, Piranha sub goalie TK Kramasz was up to the task. Kramasz stood tall in goal, allowing the Piranhas to catch their breath before putting the game away with three goals in two minutes to take a dominating 9-3 lead. Mike Townsend and Chris Stalpes added goals late to make the final score a more respectable looking 9-5.

C3 Spiders netminder Bill McCormick got the call up to B3 and played much better than the final score would indicate. Defensive and mental lapses resulted in numerous breakaways, odd man rushes, and open shots with McCormick finishing with 35 shots.

The loss drops the Spiders to 9-10-0 for the season with the season finale in just two days against the Royals.
