Spiders come up short in 4-2 loss to Piranhas

Despite a late-game powerplay goal and pulling their goalie in the game’s waning moments, the B1 Spiders (1-1) came up just short in a 4-2 loss to the Piranhas, Monday, Nov. 5 at Richfield Ice Arena. They Piranhas (1-1) also led in the shot column, 41 to 37.

After starting in a 1-0 hole during the first period, left winger George Forsman netted his first goal of the season at 8:41 in the second to tie the game at 1-1. Aaron Forsman got the assist. The Piranhas took the lead back with just more than two minutes remaining in the second period.

The Spiders had a defensive breakdown during a power play in the third that led to another Piranhas goal. But defenseman Joe Reudy scored an unassisted goal just 33 seconds later, to put the Spiders within striking distance, down 3-2.

The Spiders then called goaltender Greg Buell to bench for the six-man advantage around the two-minute mark. Piranhas goalie R. Kreuser batted away a flurry of shots off the initial faceoff and then received help from one of his defensemen in the form of a rainbow shot from behind the blueline that bounced and then glided into the Spiders’ empty net.

Buell made 38 saves on 41 shots for the Spiders.

The Spiders next draw the Mad Dogs on Sunday, Nov. 11 at New Hope Ice Arena.
