Improvement...Spiders give up only 9 goals in loss

The Minnesota Loons scored early and in bunches to hand the Spiders another ugly loss.

A couple early Loons goals had the Spiders in a 0-2 hole less than three minutes into the game. Aaron Bedessem made it 2-1 before the Loons scored a pair late in the first to go up 4-1. The Loons added a goal in the relatively uneventful second frame to extend the lead to 5-1.

The Spiders showed periods of competence but the Loons scored three goals in a minute in the third period to dispel any notions of a comeback. Jason Yancey and Jay Hilden scored late goals to make the final score a slightly less embarassing 9-3.

The official box score shows the Spiders having a 36-35 advantage in shots but that certainly flatters the Spiders. The Loons had a decided advantage in good scoring opportunities with sub goalie Rob Jones often having no chance on screened shots.

The Spiders kick off 2019 against the Ice Breakers on Thursday, January 3rd.
