Spiders win streak ends at three

Spiders were looking desperately to make a playoff run and the three wins leading into tonight’s game was a good sign. Benches were full, players were energized, and pucks were finding the back of the net. This all ended tonight.

Spiders never led during the game but were a goal short of tying the game four different times. Two early goals put team down. Tromiczak netted the first with a feed from Murray to end the first at 2-1.

Wilson and Adelman put one in each attempting to keep the game close during the second period but there were odd defensive breakdowns and a number of soft goals that kept the score just out of reach. At the end of two, it was 4-3.

Three power plays in the third period should have been the recipe for success. Again, soft goals and the inability to execute the open net well enough brought the Spiders post-season hopes to a sad end. Battle Cats finished off with a near team-record goal scoring only 4 seconds after the Spiders scored.

The remainder of the season will be played out for fun. There are some rumors that Dow could return to the net before the season concludes.
