Spiders cruise to 4-2 win over Beavers

After an intense 3-2 win over the Fighting Piranhas in the first game of the playoffs, the Spiders cruised to a slightly more comfortable 4-2 win over the Beavers on Friday afternoon in game two.

The Spiders started the game on fire, pinning the Beavers in their own end and generating multiple scoring chances. By the end of the first period, exasperation was starting to set in as the domination wasn’t resulting in goals.

Bruce Gustafson finally got the Spiders on the board as he put home a loose puck in front of the net. Cory Vandenberghe and Matt Adelmann added two more within minutes to extend the lead to 3-0.

A goal from Brian Armagost sandwiched between goals from the Beavers made the final score 4-2.

While the result wasn’t much in doubt after the Spiders went up 3-0, a larger margin of win would have been valuable as goal differential is used as a tie-breaker. After the game it certainly felt as if the Spiders left a couple goals on the ice.

The win gives the Spiders a 2-0 record in the pool. In the game immediately after the Spiders/Beavers, the Fighting Piranhas beat the Rack Attack 3-2. This result is significant as the Spiders can win the pool with a win or tie against the Rack Attack on Saturday.
