Spiders roll 9-3 over Chaos Black

With the playoffs on the horizon the Spiders offense got ramped up, scoring 9 goals and applying constant pressure on the Chaos Black. Leading the way were Matt Adelmann (2 G, 2 A), super sub Doug Thorson (2 G, 1 A), and Jay Hilden (1 G, 2 A).

The Spiders applied pressure from the opening faceoff, putting 18 shots on net in the first period. It took until 6:18 left in the period when Jim Maietta opened scoring to break through but there was little doubt who was controlling play. Doug Thorson added to the lead late in the first then banked one off Aaron Bedessem early in the second to extend the lead. Goals nine seconds apart midway through the second period by Brian Armagost and Jay Hilden put the game away.

From there, Doug Thorson notched his second of the night and Brad Butalla scored one, bracketed by Matt Adelmann’s pair of tallies.

The only bad sign for the Spiders was allowing three late goals. Granted, one of the goals was scored by running over goaltender Brian Dow and the score was 7-0 before the Chaos got on the board. But a dominating defensive and goaltending performance would have been comforting as the season comes to a close.

The regular season finale for the Spiders takes place on Saturday, March 24 at 6:00 p.m. against the Yellow Jackets on the west rink at St. Louis Park.
