Slim Spider crew frozen by Arctic Wolves in pre-new year game

The Spider bench — along with scoring chances — barely reached double digits.

The reality of trying to fit 20 games into a compressed winter season means hockey in the prime holiday travel week, and the Spiders were lucky enough to have just 10 skaters available for the Friday, Dec. 30, game against the Arctic Wolves.

A three-goal first by the Artic Wolves had the Spiders immediately on their heels, and a penalty-filled second was only disrupted by another Wolves goal with a minute remaining.

Finally in the third, Droullard got the Spiders on the board for his first of the season, assists by Schuster and Fritz, marking Schuster’s 100th career point with the Spiders!

That goal was followed three minutes later by Pappone, from LaCosse, his first point of the season, cutting the Wolves deficit to 3, which is where it would end.

Shots heavily favored the full-benched Wolves, 39–21.

Next up for the Spiders, hopefully more people in town to take on the Silverbacks, Saturday, Jan. 7, at New Hope.

The previous meeting with the Silverbacks to open the season ended in a 3–1 loss for the Spiders.

Puck drop at 9:45 p.m. Victory beers at Pub 42 to follow, with slightly less dancing than the previous victory happy hour.
