Spiders stop Gold Rush, 7–1, reach .500 in C3 West standings

A rare Friday Night Hockey tilt at Richfield drew exactly zero fans.

The Spiders got their second win in a row over the last-place Gold Rush, who drop to 0–5–1 on the season, while the Spiders improve to 3–3, in a three-way tie for fourth place (yes, technically a playoff spot).

The Spiders’ offense found plenty of life, with Mike Schroeder reprising his point shot from last week and putting the Spiders up by two before the first period was halfway over. Early in the second, it was 3–0, but a defensive zone fracas that somehow wasn’t whistled dead, ended up with a delayed penalty against the Spiders, and what should’ve been an offside play in the back of the net for the Gold Rush. 3–1.

The Spiders answered back in the third with back-to-back goals on the same shift by Kevin Noreen. And the nightcaps by Bullock and Berman, with his first of the season, led to the 7–1 final score.

Shots were conservatively at 24–22 in favor of the Spiders.

The Spiders return to action next Sunday against the 3–3 Blade Runners, who are tied for fourth with the Spiders. The Spiders last played the Blade Runners two seasons ago, going 1–0–0–1, including a heartbreaking come-from-ahead overtime 7–6 loss.
