Spiders come up short in season opener

The Spiders opened the team’s Lucky 13th season Saturday night at Breck with a loss to the new-to-C3 Silverbacks. The Silverbacks, a team that went 11–8–0–1 last season and has a habit of making it to the finals, showed they could have what it takes again to play April hockey.

One of the Spiders’ newest roster additions, #36 Tim Bullock, was the only number making it onto the scoresheet, tallying the game’s first goal, as well as first penalty.

It was all Silverbacks for the remainder of the game, capped by a shorthanded empty netter with just over a minute to go, by perennial sharpshooter Brian Vesall.

Shots were even at 23 apiece.

Next up, the Spiders will take a mulligan and look to get the first win of the season, next Saturday at New Hope, against the Shame On Ice. The Shame took their opener 6–4 over the Arctic Wolves, last season’s C3 runners-up. The Spiders haven’t faced the Shame since 2013–14, going 1–2 that season.
