Spiders cap doubleheader with Nighthawk tie

But the two points earned in each game today were enough to send the Spiders to the Level 4 Fall Tourney championship Sunday.

In the second game of a Saturday tourney doubleheader, the 12-minute periods were of little respite to the weary hockey legs of the post-summer-hiatus Fall Tourney. And just like the stalemate earlier today, the Spiders and Nighthawks evened it up with one goal apiece when the buzzer rang above the Nighthawks’ empty net. The Nighthawks needed a win to advance. Instead, the tie gives the nod to the Yellow Team, which tied up their game on the BIG 3 ice with just 30.1 seconds remaining, and qualify with the head-to-head tiebreaker.

Scoring for the Spiders, winger Jake Cison, who when asked how he beat the goalie, “I didn’t even see it go in.”
