Ticks wrap up summer season

Refusing to let the hockey season end, some D1 and C2 Spiders joined with other players from the C2 Bulls and a few random folks to enjoy the chilling excitement of playing up a level this summer. Donning our skates and going up against the big guys turned out to be both exciting, a learning experience and at times a lesson in humility. With a strong start and hoping for a .500 season — a combination of vacations and injuries left the team stuck in a bug glue trap at the bottom of the bucket, unable to pull up. The last couple games of the season had the team skating with 1.5 to 2 lines of players. After returning from almost four weeks of injured reserve, Ackermann was greeted by Amber with a ferocious “hello” and “thank goodness — a defenseman!” Apparently the previous game started with just five players and Amber — they were eventually joined by three more players — none of them defense.

Player of the summer for the D1 members was Chris Flannery — with 4 goals, 3 assists and 10 PIM. Ackermann and Baker both had points to match their penalty minutes — two each — though Luke did get bragging rights to a goal.

Amber Obermoller had her scoring streak and penalty minute streak ended but earned high praise from all members of the squad for her hard work in the net and patience with the lack of chemistry of the team in the defensive zone. She did manage to punish the team after one particularly difficult game by making several team members drink some sort of foreign ale or lager.

All in all, everyone kept a good attitude and learned lots of new moves as the Spiders shoot for back-to-back championships this winter.
