East beats West to win D1 All Star Game

It was all East in the 2008 D1 All Star Game, where the D1 East All Stars commanded both the game, winning handily by an 8–2 margin, as well as the pre-game Skills Competition, winning by four points, 13–9. The sellout crowd of 30 at the Super Rink (perhaps due to the AHA’s proclamation that spectators could get in free) may have actually been decieved into thinking they were watching a legitimate hockey game rather than the typical AHA D-level fare. With each team sending one to four players — their cream of the crop (That is, of course with the exception of the Spiders’ lone representative, defensive pylon Jeremy Litton, who replaced the injured Brian “China Doll” Armagost on the All Star roster...) — the pace was fast, the pressure unrelenting, the play heads up, and the passes tape to tape. And also unlike the regular season, there were no injuries and, curiously, no penalties.

In the end, a good time was had by all, and it was a great opportunity to get to know people from the other teams, whom we only know from the nameplates on the backs of their sweaters across the red line. Plus, many thanks to D1 tier admin Kevin Joseph and crew, who put on a great show and made the afternoon a lot of fun. And special congratulations to the Lumberjacks’ Stuart Chazin, who was voted All Star MVP, for his two goals and an assist on the afternoon.
