Spiders clinch playoff berth after dominating Taz Devils 7-1

The Spiders dominated the Taz Devils 7-1 on St. Patrick's Day with later results guaranteeing a playoff berth.

Aaron Bedessem got the Spiders off to a strong start, scoring his sixth of the season less than three minutes into the game. Tom Prausa extended the lead as a Taz Devils defenseman deflected the puck past his own goalie. The Taz Devils got within 2-1 before the Christian Peterson show got started.

Peterson scored not one, not two, but three in a row for a natural hat trick. Taz Devils goalie Angelo Chaousy is second to none at the B3 level but had no chance as defensive zone turnovers led to Peterson having time to pick the corners of the net repeatedly.

The last Peterson goal was a shorty and Justin Stone followed it up with a second goal on the same kill. Joe Long added a late goal to make the final score 7-1.

The win, coupled with the Northern Horde loss later on Saturday, clinched a playoff spot for the Spiders. The Spiders have a short turnaround as they return to the ice on Monday, March 19th against the division leading Spitfires Green. The Spitfires have already clinched the division championship but the Spiders will be looking to avenge an earlier loss and continue their momentum toward the playoffs.
