Spiders tame Wild 4-2

The Spiders prevailed over the Wild by a 4-2 score on Sunday in a game with huge playoff implications.

The Wild got on the board just nine seconds into the game off a defensive zone turnover. Christian Peterson answered just over a minute later to level the score at 1-1. Peterson added his team-leading 12th goal later in the period with a tremendous individual effort. After winning a center ice faceoff Peterson split the defense before beating Wild goalie Rob Jones low to the glove side.

The Wild continued to put pressure on the Spiders defense through the first period. The Wild are arguably the most skilled team in B3 and can create loads of good scoring opportunities. As the game progressed the Spiders started to gel defensively and limit the Wild offense with Brian Dow standing tall against the shots that did arrive on net.

Brent Murray extended the lead to 3-1 with a deflection of a Matt Adelman shot from the point. Jason Yancey added to the lead on another deflection; this one off a Wild skater.

The Wild closed to 4-2 midway through the third but got no closer.

The win moves the Spiders to 10-3-1-0 on the season with a B3 East-leading 21 points. It also gives the Spiders the tie-breaker on the Wild after a 3-3 tie in the first meeting of the season. The Spiders have a week off before a rematch with the Northern Horde. The Spiders stole the first meeting of the season 4-3 despite being outshot 41-23.
