Impressive offensive display sends Spiders to 7-3 win over Venom

The result was never in doubt as the Spiders took a 7-3 win over the Venom, putting 56 shots on goal.

Christian Peterson and Joe Long scored first period goals. The Venom followed with two goals against the run of play in the second before Peterson netted his second on the power play to re-take the lead.

The Spider offense really got in gear in the third period, outshooting the Venom 24-5. Jay Hilden, Brent Murray, Derk Jacobsen (4th goal in 3 games), and Matt Adelman all scored to put the game away.

Peterson, Murray, Adelman, Joe Long, Josh Cagle, and Aaron Bedessem all had multiple points on the night. Brian Dow made 25 saves on 28 shots in his 9th win of the season.

The Spiders sit at 9-3-1 on the season, good for 2nd place, 1/2 game behind Spitfires Green. The standings remain tight with next weeks game against the Wild looming large. A win gives the Spiders some breathing room over the chasing pack including the Battle Cats, Wild, and Taz Devils. The previous meeting finsihed with a 3-3 tie on the olympic ice at BIG so the rematch could be important for tiebreakers in addition to the immediate standings.
