Spiders offense hits high gear with 6-2 win over Venom

Clinical finishing and strong goaltending were the difference as the Spiders beat the Venom 6-2 on Sunday night.

Cody Buckalew opened the scoring as a shot from the point deflected off a Venom player. A pair of Venom goals sandwiched tallies from Hank Long and Jason Yancey to close out the 2nd period 3-2 for the Spiders. Brian Dow made a couple point blank saves to help the Spiders retain the lead.

The Spiders took control in the third period with Derk Jacobson and Jason Yancey, his second, scoring early. Yancey completed the hat trick with a nifty back-hander to make the final 6-2.

Dow finished with 37 saves on 39 shots and a 94.9% save percentage.

The win moves the Spiders to 2-1-0. Next up for the Spiders is a showdown with the two-time B3 runner-up Wild on Sunday, November 19th at Breck with a 7:30pm faceoff. While it’s early, the Venom and Wild are expected to be amongst the playoff contenders in B3. This two-game stretch will be a good gauge of where the Spiders are at early in the season.
