Spiders Tie Piranhas

The division leading Spiders met the Fighting Piranhas on Sunday at Eden Prairie Community Center. The Fighting Piranhas had been struggling this season and the Spiders were hitting their stride. The matchup had all the hallmarks of a “trap” game.

The game started off with a quick goal by the Loons and the Spiders found themselves battling from behind most of the game. Early in the third, the Fighting Piranhas went up 5-2. The Spiders Dirk Jacobson quickly turned things around with a goal from an Aaron Bedessem pass. The teams played a gritty final twelve minutes. Christian Peterson led the charge with two third period goals to complete his first Spiders hat trick.

After an uneventful overtime, the Spiders left with a single point and retention of the division lead. Next game is on MLK day against Barons, who are hot on the heels of the Spiders looking to gain ground on the division lead.
