Spiders rally comes up short, fall to the Northern Horde 2-1

The Spiders took the ice with only nine skaters on Saturday as injuries and vacation left the Spiders short handed. The Northern Horde responded with a full compliment of 13 skaters.

The Spiders weather the storm early as they paced themselves and sub goaltender Mark Winters was up to the task. The Horde struck first as late in the period as they won a scramble to a loose puck in front of the net. Momentum started shifting to the Spiders as the second period progressed but the Horde again took advantage of a scramble in front of the net.

The majority of the possession belonged to the Spiders but heavy legs had the Spider resorting to low percentage shots from the outside with Northern Horde sub goalie Chad Rognlie turning away numerous chances. The Spiders finally ended the shutout with Shawn Tromiczak scoring with only 14 seconds on the clock. Mark Winters took a spot on the bench for the ensuing faceoff but the Spiders weren’t able to score the tying goal in the short time left.

The loss drops the Spiders to 3-5-0 on the season. The Spiders have also gone 216 minutes without holding a lead. Luckily for the Spiders the rest of the division is in chaos as well, with the Spiders only 1-1/2 games out of the playoff spots.

Next for the Spiders are the Landsharks on Sunday night at New Hope N.
