Spiders demolish Mutiny 8-2

A week after a humbling loss to the Fighting Piranhas, the Spiders got back on track against the Mutiny at the historic State Fair Coliseum. Six second period goals broke open a tight game as the Spiders ran away with an 8-2 win.

The Mutiny struck first before Mike Townsend tied it at 1-1 with his third goal of the season.

Early in the second period it became evident that luck was on the Spiders side. With Geoff Kuppe in the box for a dubious holding the stick call, Matt Adelmann banked one off a Mutiny defender from behind the net. Less than two minutes later Townsend added his second of the game to extend the lead to 3-1. The Mutiny closed to 3-2 before the avalanche of goals began. Jim Maietta, Adelmann (again), Chris Stalpes, and Adelmann (once more for the hat trick) scored before the end of the second to break the game open. Adelmann’s second goal was a product of both luck and effort, reminiscent of Kyle Rau’s diving goal in 3 overtimes to win a state championship for Eden Prairie in 2011.

Chris Stalpes brought scoring to close with a Brett Hull-esque one timer from the right circle off a nice pass from Aaron Bedessem.

Goaltender Brian Dow turned in a strong performance, turning away several good scoring chances early. Dow even got himself in the score book with an interference call late in the game.

The win improves the Spiders to 2-1 on the season while also giving a huge confidence boost as the Mutiny entered the game with a 2-0 record. The Spiders will make a return trip to the Coliseum this upcoming Sunday, November 24th. Face off against the Leftovers is slated for 7:45pm.
